I go away for a week and loads of stuff happens. Mainly around Samantha Brick. Not entirely sure I need to add anymore to what seems to have been carnage. But here are two posts that look at different issues than the main ones – a New Statesman article by Steven Baxter that looks at the media’s motivations and their use of social networking to exacerbate Samantha Brick’s ideas around how women perceive her beauty, and an interesting discussion from Eva Wiseman and Susie Orbach about the media’s perception of women. Ashley Judd has also talked about her perception of this from here own view as an actress.
In terms of history, there’s an interesting piece on the BBC today on why most streets are named after men and their historical accomplishments. Divine Women, a TV programme on female goddesses kicks off tonight on BBC 2. Here’s Bettany Hughes discussing it with the Guardian.
