The Handmaid’s Tale

Bonjour Francesca!

Just finished reading the Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood – absolute genius! In a time where the Leveson Inquiry is looking at the portrayal of women by the media and there are more millionaires in the UK government cabinet than women, this is essential reading. Especially when Republican candidates for the next Presidency hardly seem to be enlightened… hope the future of the good old US of A is rather different to Gilead!

However, not just enlightening, gripping, thought provoking and marvellous! Dystopia has never been so good! The first person narrative is measured perfectly to analyse the effect of the state theocracy on the narrator’s sense of self.

You can read here about how Margaret Atwood came to write it. And if you’re looking for a gift for me check out the below pic from a new Folio edition….. 😉
